Manteno Quarry Community Advisory Group My name is Todd Creek, I have lived in Manteno all of my life and own Dura-Tech Enterprises Incorporated. I am writing to let you know about an important development in the history of the Vulcan Materials Company Manteno Quarry and the Manteno community.
In an effort to improve relations with its neighbors and strengthen its commitment to the area, earlier in 2006, Vulcan began the process of forming a community advisory group of area residents to improve communications between its operation (on Rt. 50), neighbors and the community.
This group will serve as a forum for proactive, two-way conversations and information exchange between the Vulcan Materials Company Manteno Quarry, neighbors and the Manteno community. The group is a listening and sharing body to help the company respond to community concerns, to proactively inform the community of operational developments and to help the company improve its supportive role in Manteno's neighborhoods, schools and community organizations.
I am pleased to announce the members of the Manteno Quarry Community Advisory Group, which is made up of six Manteno residents, one village representative and two company representatives. On September 19, 2006, we confirmed our commitment to objectively help facilitate a productive dialogue and working relationship between the quarry and the community.
Todd Creek, Chairman and Resident Representative (10 North Locust) Chief Bernie Thompson, Village Representative Krista Carlile, Resident Representative (6624 North 2000E Road) Joseph Cyrier, Resident Representative (5924 North 2000E Road) Pat Mallaney, Resident Representative (7635 North US Highway 45-52) Paul Russert, Resident Representative (443 North Maple Street) Brian Stauffenberg, Resident Representative (10242 North 500E Road) Ryan Kemp, Resident Representative (443 North Maple Street) Dan Usrey, Resident Representative (1600 North Boudreau Road) Bryan Lane, Quarry Representative, Manteno Plant Manager
Our group held its first meeting on August 17, 2006, we got together to basically get to know each other, tour the facility and review the organizational procedures we would be working through together. Because we will be sharing operational information, the regular group sessions will not be public meetings.
The group has discussed many ways it can work to help improve communication with the general public through the development of outreach programs and other ways of informing and listening to the community. In the future we will be working on special projects including plans to improve the aesthetics of the quarry entrance on Rt. 50.
In the meantime, if you ever have any questions, concerns or ideas about the Community Advisory Group, please do not hesitate to contact me at (815) 468-6165. If you have questions about the Vulcan Materials Company Manteno Quarry please do not hesitate to contact Plant Manager Bryan Lane at (815) 468-8141. You can also visit the quarry website at www.vmcManteno.com for information on the quarry and the Community Advisory Group.
No employer is perfect - we all know that. The Vulcan team has promised us and promises you that it will be as responsive as possible to its neighbors and is working hard to continually strengthen this commitment. On behalf of the Manteno Quarry Community Advisory Group, I thank you for your time and look forward to working together.
Sincerely,
Todd Creek Chairman
