"Fall" into Oktoberfest! April 1, 2008 - It's officially time to mark your calendar for Manteno's 2008 Oktoberfest. The series of autumn celebrations will take place September 18-21 and include the annual lighted parade, live entertainment and a host of other family-friendly activities. The Oktoberfest Planning Committee has been working year-round to arrange event participants and is pleased to announce Vulcan Materials Company to be the title sponsor for the third year in a row.
"It is a pleasure to partner with Vulcan once again," said Dan Usrey, Co-President of the Oktoberfest Planning Committee. "We are thankful because Oktoberfest would not be possible without the generosity of its sponsors."
Vulcan will donate a $10,000 grant to help offset the costs of the four-day festivities. Businesses looking to promote their company and expand visibility may take advantage of the large range of Oktoberfest deluxe sponsorship packages. Available sponsorships range from $100 to $2,500 and give companies the opportunity to showcase their brand throughout one of the most highly-attended festivals in Kankakee County. Oktoberfest will take place on Main Street in downtown Manteno.
"We are thrilled for the opportunity to participate in Oktoberfest once again," said Tim Theobald, Manager of Vulcan Material Company's Manteno Quarry and Oktoberfest Planning Committee Member. "It is a true joy to partake in this rich tradition and celebrate the harvest season as a community."
Similar to last year, the series of events will include carnival rides, musical entertainment, games, a 5K run, a skateboarding exhibition and a chili cook-off. The Committee is also planning to return the ever-popular Vulcan's "Kid's Corner" where children can fossil-hunt, play in Manteno's largest sandbox and check out a fascinating rock exhibit displaying a variety of unique and native stones to the Manteno area.
"We are really looking forward to another successful Oktoberfest," said Tim Nugent, Mayor of the Village of Manteno. "It's an excellent opportunity to showcase all that Manteno has to offer."
Always a much-anticipated occasion in the community, Oktoberfest draws thousands statewide to enjoy everything from beer tents and live band performances to raffles and carnival contests.
