2008 Manteno Oktoberfest rocks out with Vulcan's Kids Corner!
September 29, 2008-- Vulcan's Manteno Quarry celebrated the arrival of fall by serving as the title sponsor of Manteno's 2008 Oktoberfest on September 18-21. As the community got into the autumn spirit with all sorts of seasonal festivities, Vulcan capped off months of planning with the unveiling of their famous Kids Corner.
"It was a pleasure for Vulcan to play an active role in Oktoberfest again this year," said Manteno's new plant manager Bryan Lane. "We are committed to supporting positive activities in the community and we enjoyed every minute this seasonal celebration."
Vulcan's Kids Corner included a host of outdoor adventures like digging for fossils in Manteno's largest sandbox and rock-climbing a 24-foot tall wall. Families posed for festive pictures in front of the "Extreme Machine" display, which consisted of a parked loader and Vulcan truck. Those who preferred to stay clean moseyed around the geology exhibit, which showcased many of Manteno's native and most distinctive rocks. Oktoberfest attendees also took premium Vulcan giveaways and soft rocks. Vulcan employees also inspired creativity in young members of the community by teaching them how to create and paint their own pet rock.
Employees provided complimentary bus tours of the Manteno Quarry to community members. On the tour, Vulcan employees explained how rock is mined to build community infrastructure like roads, bridges and houses as well as what goes on in daily life at a quarry.
"Oktoberfest has been a wonderful way to get to know the community of Manteno," said Lane, whose family is in the process of relocating to Manteno. "This is a great way to start the fall season."
