Manteno Honored by IAAP

April 7, 2010 - Vulcan Materials Company isn't just building roads, it is building communities. Illinois Association of Aggregate Producers (IAAP) announced Manteno Quarry has been awarded the 2009 Community Relations Award for its effective community outreach during the past year. The Quarry's creative programs are geared to promote and strengthen local communities, ranging from educational opportunities to event sponsorships.

Vulcan remains a strong member of the educational community through its Adopt-a-School program with Manteno School District #5, which enhances educational resources and provides students with tours and in-class learning opportunities. Manteno also teamed with the Manteno Police Department on a "Be Safe, Be Seen this Halloween" safety campaign and donated safety glow sticks and flyers to equip area parents and schoolchildren on trick-or-treat night.

Over the past three years, Manteno Quarry has been an active title sponsor of Manteno Oktoberfest. During the event, Vulcan employees provide quarry tours, show off their cool extreme machines and give lessons on aggregates. The Vulcan Kid's Corner booth features a sand box filled with fossils, a make your own pet rock station, a climbing wall and tons of goodies. Its a great experience for all members of the Manteno community.

"We really enjoy being an active part of the Manteno community," said Manteno Plant Manager, Bryan Lane. "Our team looks to work with our neighbors at every opportunity and we appreciate being able to support programs and endeavors that make a positive difference."
